Abstract
A novel method for the preparation of dibenzoxanthene was described. The reaction of 2-naphthols with an allylic alcohol in the presence of a bismuth triflate catalyst under air gave the corresponding dibenzoxanthenes in good yields. The reaction intermediates and reaction pathways in the bismuth-catalyzed reaction of 2-naphthol with 2-methylprop-2-en-1-ol were determined by 1H-NMR analysis. Under similar reaction conditions, 2-naphthol was reacted with various aldehydes to afford the corresponding dibenzoxanthenes in good yields.
