Using Local Flaps to Reconstruct Mohs Defects of the Forehead.

Abstract

Reconstruction of forehead defects presents a unique challenge due to the forehead's high visibility, limited tissue laxity, and proximity to critical structures. Knowledge of the pertinent anatomy, including tissue planes and neurovascular structures, enables the effective use of reconstructive techniques to achieve optimal aesthetic and functional results. Mastering principles of local flap reconstruction with the use of advancement, rotation, and transposition flaps are the keys to maximizing tissue mobility and ensuring tension-free closures, while preserving facial landmarks. Additionally, adjuvant procedures, such as chemodenervation and microneedling, can enhance outcomes and improve patient satisfaction.
