Strengthening Clinical Practice Through Professional Governance

Abstract

Sustaining a strong professional governance structure in a postpandemic environment is challenging and requires a commitment to intervention and evaluation. The purpose of this evidence-based practice (EBP) quality improvement project was to measure core elements of an organization’s professional governance structure, aiming to identify opportunities to design interventions that will strengthen the structure. The following variables were measured: decision making, collateral relationships, and professional obligation; EBP beliefs; and senior leadership beliefs of current state of the professional governance structure at the organization. Results indicate a need to design interventions focused on professional expectations, leadership engagement, and supportive empowerment structures including EBP skill development.
