Abstract
Background
Methyl methacrylate (MMA) is a respiratory irritant that has been.associated with occupational exposure. This study aimed to predict the potential effect.in lung tissue in response to MMA inhalation in mice.Aim: to detect the potential hazards associated with MMA inhalation in a rat model.Material and Methods: Adult male Wister albino rats were divided randomly into;Group I (control group); exposed to normal environmental condition for 4 weeks. Group.II (MMA group); exposed to MMA vapor at a concentration of 150 ppm 6 h/day, 5.days/week for 4 weeks. Collected lung specimens were examined by light and electron.microscopy.
Results
Collapse of the lung alveoli with thickening of the interalveolar septa were.detected in MMA group. Ultrastructure examination revealed irregular pneumocytes, prominent fibroblast with collagen fibers precipitate. Conclusion: chronic exposure to MMA may result in alveolar collapse and lung.fibrosis.
期刊介绍:
Tissue and Cell is devoted to original research on the organization of cells, subcellular and extracellular components at all levels, including the grouping and interrelations of cells in tissues and organs. The journal encourages submission of ultrastructural studies that provide novel insights into structure, function and physiology of cells and tissues, in health and disease. Bioengineering and stem cells studies focused on the description of morphological and/or histological data are also welcomed.
Studies investigating the effect of compounds and/or substances on structure of cells and tissues are generally outside the scope of this journal. For consideration, studies should contain a clear rationale on the use of (a) given substance(s), have a compelling morphological and structural focus and present novel incremental findings from previous literature.
