Abstract

Rationale: Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disease of unknown etiology that usually involves the lungs and hilar lymph nodes and rarely involves the digestive system other than the liver.

Patient concerns: A woman with no medical history presented with 2 pulmonary nodules and a pancreatic mass on chest computed tomography (CT) because of sputum production and shortness of breath.

Diagnoses: Ultrasound bronchoscopy and pathology showed pulmonary sarcoidosis.

Interventions: Oral prednisone acetate.

Outcomes: In the following year of follow-up, the pancreatic, lung and mediastinal lesions were significantly reduced.

Lessons: Corticosteroid therapy may therefore constitute a different kind of diagnosis.
