Abstract
Utilizing SbCl3/SbCl5 mixtures at reflux, or of TCCA in a solid-solid reaction at 200 °C (with properly described precautions) are described as reliable and convenient procedures for the conversion of [HCB11H11]- into [HCB11Cl11]-. Procedures for the derivatizaion of the carbon vertex of [HCB11Cl11]- to prepare [XCB11Cl11]- salts (X = Cl, Br, I, NH2) are also formulated.
