Abstract
Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the smartest of them all? The combination of B(C6F5)3 with a 1,2,3-triazole unleashed remarkable new possibilities, as reported by Biprajit Sarkar et al. in their Research Article (e202422702). The mirror images show the three different compounds to which the starting material can convert to: a strongly donating anionic mesoionic carbene ligand (MIC), metallo-MIC-borane adducts and bis-borane adducts of MICs. This simple yet astonishing concept provides a platform for new, intriguing MIC-based compounds with high potential in catalysis.
