Abstract
The objective of this study is to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the antecedents influencing firm-level hotel environmental performance. Additionally, this research investigates whether national culture, specifically individualism versus collectivism and short-term versus long-term orientation, and response rate moderate these relationships. Articles published from 2000 onward were analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative meta-analytical methods and, drawing upon 166 independent studies comprising 59,205 data points, the antecedents were classified into three categories: organizational-level, individual-level, and external factors. The results indicate that all three influence hotel environmental performance and that these associations are stronger in collectivistic and long-term-oriented societies than individualistic and short-term-oriented societies. The study also found that the link between hotel environmental performance and its antecedents is weaker when the response rate is high. Our findings contribute valuable insights for both researchers and practitioners concerned with the environmental performance of the hospitality industry.
