Abstract
A 66-year-old smoker and alcoholic male patient was referred to our service for evaluation of a lesion on the labial commissure. Patient reported that for 10 years he has had recurring “wound” in the area. Extraoral examination showed no relevant alterations. Intraoral examination revealed an ulcer on the left labial commissure extending to the jugal mucosa and vermilion of the lip. On the jugal mucosa on the right side, we noticed an exophytic ulcer that extended to the labial commissure. The clinical diagnosis was squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) for both lesions. A biopsy was performed, and histopathological examination confirmed the clinical diagnosis. The tumors were staged at T3N0M0, and the patient underwent surgery to excise both tumors. This unusual case demonstrates the importance of early diagnosis of white and ulcerated lesions in retro commissural areas and the possibility of synchronous tumors in smokers and alcoholics.
