Abstract
Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is a highly accurate and cost-efficient method commonly employed for salivary gland issues, encompassing a spectrum from inflammation to tumors, which may be either neoplastic or not. A 25-year-old female patient presented with a 50-mm nodule, circumscribed, on the upper right lip, rubbery in consistency and smooth surface, with coloration similar to that of the mucosa, evolving over 6 years. Ultrasound-guided FNA was performed and material was assessed for liquid-based cytology (LBC). Examination of the LBC revealed the presence of individual or clustered cells with normochromic nuclei displaced to the periphery and eosinophilic cytoplasm with morphology resembling that of a plasma cell, suggestive of pleomorphic adenoma. An incisional biopsy was performed, and a diagnosis of the pleomorphic adenoma was made. The patient was treated by surgical approach and is without recurrence. The ultrasound-guided FNA is an ancillary tool for diagnosis of salivary gland diseases.

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Oral Radiology is required reading for anyone in the fields of oral surgery, oral medicine, oral pathology, oral radiology or advanced general practice dentistry. It is the only major dental journal that provides a practical and complete overview of the medical and surgical techniques of dental practice in four areas. Topics covered include such current issues as dental implants, treatment of HIV-infected patients, and evaluation and treatment of TMJ disorders. The official publication for nine societies, the Journal is recommended for initial purchase in the Brandon Hill study, Selected List of Books and Journals for the Small Medical Library.
