Abstract

This paper introduces an innovative approach to improving power quality in grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems through the integration of a hybrid energy storage, combining batteries and supercapacitors and a novel three-phase ten-switch (H10) inverter. The hybrid storage system enhances the stability and responsiveness of the PV system, offering both sustained energy delivery and rapid power support. The H10 inverter, controlled by a unique space vector pulse width modulation strategy, reduces common mode voltage (CMV) fluctuations and dv/dt stresses, comparable to three-level inverters but with reduced component complexity. This configuration significantly lowers leakage currents and suppresses grid current harmonics, leading to enhanced power quality. The system’s effectiveness is validated through comprehensive MATLAB simulations and experimental results, demonstrating its superiority over existing inverter topologies in reducing CMV and leakage currents while improving overall PV system performance.
