[Current Status and Explanation of Genetic Medicine].

Abstract

With the advances in genetic medicine, genetic explanations may be required for various diseases. Hence, genetic counseling methods may be helpful. Furthermore, in recent years, disease-modifying therapies have been developed for some hereditary neuromuscular diseases and their explanations are changing. To date, pre-implantation genetic testing for adult-onset neurodegenerative diseases has not been indicated; however, the appropriateness of testing is now being reviewed depending on the "severity" of the disease.
