Abstract
The AppLHy! project is part of the TransHyDE flagship project of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The researchers are developing various technologies for transport and application of liquid hydrogen and are demonstrating their benefits for the development of a sustainable and efficient hydrogen transport infrastructure in Germany. The focus of AppLHy! is on the supply, storage, and transport of liquid hydrogen (LH₂). This offers great potential within a sustainable hydrogen economy as a potentially CO2-free vector with high gravimetric energy density and intrinsic purity. In addition, synergy effects between cryogenic LH₂ and high-temperature superconductors (HTS) emerge, and the “cooling power” of LH₂ can also be used for other processes.
