Abstract

Background

Suicide is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, representing a significant challenge for public health and psychiatry. This article pragmatically reviews the current state of suicide prevention strategies, identifying both achieved progress and persistent challenges.

Methods

A review of the literature was conducted, including recent and relevant studies published in major academic databases. Studies were selected and analyzed based on their relevance to suicide prevention, methodological approaches, and key findings.

Results

The review revealed that while significant progress has been made in identifying risk factors and developing preventive interventions, major challenges persist. Multifaceted interventions, including educational, psychological, and pharmacological components, show the most promising results. However, effective implementation and accessibility of these interventions remain problematic in many regions.

Conclusions

Suicide prevention presents both opportunities and challenges. Continued research and improved implementation of evidence-based strategies are crucial to reduce suicide rates. Interdisciplinary collaboration and the adaptation of interventions to specific contexts are essential for progress in this field.
