Abstract
Introduction
The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of Nano-curcumin on the severity, frequency, and duration of migraine attacks among patients who suffer from this irritating headache.
Methods
PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, ProQuest, The Cochrane Library, and google scholar were systematically searched up to December 30, 2022 in order to find the eligible studies investigating the effect of Nano-curcumin supplementation on the duration, severity, or frequency of migraine headache attacks. Only randomized controlled trials were included. RevMan (V 5.4) software was used to perform Meta-analysis and the results were reported using Mean difference with 95 % confidence intervals (CI).
Results
A total of three randomized controlled trials with participation of 126 patients were included. The result of Meta-analysis indicated that using Nano-curcumin supplementation significantly reduced the severity of migraine headache attacks in intervention group [-1.92; 95 % CI (-2.74, −1.09); p < 0.001]; But there was not significant difference in duration [-3.96; 95 % CI (-8.79, 0.89); p = 0.11], and frequency [-1.09; 95 % CI (-2.38, 0.19); p = 0.09] of migraine headache attacks between the intervention and control groups.
Conclusions
Nano-curcumin supplementation in patients suffering from migraine played an important role in reducing severity of migraine headache attacks compared to control group.
