Abstract
In this study, novel Ca3Y2B4O12:Eu3+ and Dy3+ phosphors were synthesized utilizing a simple and efficient combustion process. The Ca3Y2B4O12 host orthorhombic phase with high crystallinity formation is confirmed by structural x-ray diffraction analysis. The Ca3Y2B4O12:Eu3+ phosphors PL study indicated different emission peaks at 595 and 618 nm under 397 nm excitation, whereas Ca3Y2B4O12:Dy3+ phosphors emission peaks displayed blue (485 nm) and yellow (579 nm) under 353 nm excitation. The ideal doping concentration of 0.5 mol% for Eu3+ and Dy3+ ions resulted in maximum emission intensity due to reduced concentration quenching effects. The chromaticity coordinates show that the emissions are in the visible spectrum, with high-purity colors suitable for solid state lighting. The results indicate that novel Ca3Y2B4O12:Eu3+ and Dy3+ is promising materials for n-UV emitting phosphors for solid-state lighting applications.
