Abstract

Numerous tunnels face increasing challenges from invalid luminaires that affect lighting quality and traffic safety. This study aims to improve safety by systematically evaluating the lighting indexes and providing valuable insights into optimal maintenance strategies under specific failure conditions. According to the practical dimensions of the tunnel and the parameters of the luminaire, the model of the tunnel luminaire failure was established, and the accuracy of the numerical simulation model was verified by comparing the results of the experimental investigation. Based on the consideration of middle line lighting and bilateral symmetrical lighting, a variety of luminaire failure conditions were designed, and the luminaire failure parameters such as illuminance and uniformity were systematically analyzed. The results showed that for middle line lighting, continuous failure and spaced failure have the similar influence on illuminance, but continuous failure of the luminaire has a greater impact on uniformity. For bilaterally symmetrical lighting, in the case of the same number of failures, the continuous failure on one-side only has a greater impact on the tunnel road, and the failure on two-side has a greater impact on the sidewall. The illuminance distribution function for malfunctions is specifically derived to effectively describe the variations of tunnel illuminance under different conditions.
