Successful leadership requires learning to become comfortable with ambiguity

Abstract

Relationship-building stands out as a common thread across all the leadership roles Tim Hall has held during his nearly 30-year career in college athletics. “Nothing good ever gets done without a relationship,” said Hall, now Athletics Director and Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics at Longwood University in Virginia. To build successful relationships and lead effectively, you must take time to understand others, learn how they think and why, and figure out what motivates them. To make this happen, Hall strives to learn as much about psychology as he can.
