Abstract
Bile duct cancer encompasses a heterogeneous group of epithelial neoplasms originating in the biliary tree, including the gallbladder. It is considered a rare tumor in Western countries, although its incidence has increased in recent years. There are different anatomical subgroups with differences in risk factors, clinical presentation, molecular characteristics, and locoregional treatments. Most cases will be diagnosed in advanced stages and there will be recurrence in up to 80% of resected tumors, so they are neoplasms with a poor prognosis.
