However, the relatively large body size of chickens and the need to maintain living animals due to the previous lack of reliable frozen stock methods, until the development of cultivating methods of PGCs, has caused a steady decline in the number of available lines globally. Several research facilities maintain chicken and quail lines and provide them for research purposes. Biological resources are essential for research using chickens and quails, particularly in the field of developmental biology.
