It is demonstrated that a multi-antenna rogue base station (BS) can impersonate the legitimate BS by injecting malicious signals during downlink transmission. Exploiting channel hardening, three PLA schemes are proposed, which are based on the large-scale fading coefficient and incorporate channel correlation for practical implementation. The false alarm and detection probabilities are analyzed. Additionally, a dual-threshold strategy for authentication decisions is developed. Abstract
This study investigates physical layer authentication (PLA) in the downlink of massive MIMO systems.
