Abstract

In this work, new derivatives of 2-methyl-dihydroxyindenopyrrole were synthesized using a three-component reaction between polycyclic aromatic amine (1-aminopyrene or 1-aminonaphthalene), ninhydrin and a β-dicarbonyl in the presence of Lewis acid catalyst at the optimum conditions. Treatment of the products with phosphoryl chloride in DMF, was followed by hydrolysis to obtain conjugated 2-hydroxymethyl-indenopyrrole derivatives. The absorption and emission spectra,as well as analytical data of the products were also reported.
