A case of first-episode psychosis with catatonic features in an adolescent following THC use

Abstract

This paper presents a case study of a 14-year-old female admitted with first-episode psychosis and catatonic features following delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) use. The rising prevalence of cannabis, especially among adolescents, underscores the need to distinguish between substance-induced and primary psychoses. The discussion explores the challenges in diagnosis, emphasizing predictors such as family history and trauma. Treatment strategies, including abstinence promotion, medical evaluation, and early psychosis intervention, are crucial for effective management.
