Abstract
The paper presents research results of reverse-polarity plasma cutting of thick Ti-5Al-5V-5Mo titanium alloy plates. It is shown that 300 A current is the best for plasma cutting of 20 and 40 mm thick plates, and for 70-mm thick plates, the best is the current of 350 A. The surface layer includes the molten metal, oxide layers, and heat-affected zone. Traces of molten titanium are observed on the sample surface after its displacement from the work area by the water-air mixed flow. The use of the water mist generation system improves the quality of the work area, but does not reduce the material oxidation during cutting.
