Abstract

It is very likely in the near future, nurses with less than 10 years of experience will be in executive leadership roles. Identifying and preparing high performing nurses for leadership roles is essential. Proactive succession planning is a key component to prepare nurse leaders minimizing disruption at all levels of nursing leadership particularly the executive leadership level. Building upon a previous program preparing Assistant Nurse Managers for the Nurse Manager role, a program was developed to support the transition of nurse leaders for the Senior Director of nursing role, preparing them to be practice ready at an Academic Health System.
