Abstract

In this work, the CFD-DEM method is applied to establish a spouted pulsed fluidized bed (SPFB) model, which can enhance the heat and mass transfer by eliminating the dead zones. The effects of the frequency and amplitude of the auxiliary pulsed flow on the gas–solid flow, particle mixing, and heat transfer characteristics as well as the mutual correlation analysis are investigated. The results show that the mixing rate and average Lacey index of bidispersed particles first increase and then decrease with the increase of pulsed flow frequency or amplitude. Based on the comprehensive analysis of flow and heat transfer characteristics, it is determined that the optimal pulse flow condition is frequency 6 Hz and amplitude 1.2 m/s. The convection heat transfer and radiation heat transfer rates increased by 4.8% and 9.2%, respectively, compared with that under continuous flow. The results can provide effective theoretical guidance for the design and optimization of the SPFB.
