The Education Act 1981--rethinking special educational needs in the United Kingdom.

Abstract

The events leading to the 1981 Education Act which recommends major changes in the provision of special education resources in the United Kingdom are reviewed. The emerging important contribution of "educational medicine" is discussed and the main features of the Act are reported.
