Abstract

Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) have a significant impact on patient and organizational outcomes, yet their transition into the advanced practice role can often be challenging due to feelings of inadequacy and a lack of structured onboarding and orientation. An evidence-based, multicomponent CNS transition to practice onboarding program was developed to support newly hired CNSs to a large healthcare organization which resulted in a 93% retention rate and high job satisfaction. Nursing leaders have an opportunity to support CNS transition to practice programs and promote the visibility of the CNS within the organization, thereby resulting in improved nursing outcomes.
