Abstract
Choosing to build façade materials impacts preserving energy and the surrounding environment. A few previous papers studied the environmental aspect of choosing a building facade. This article developed an integrated eco-design system consisting of three dimensions (environmental, economic, and social). The weights of these dimensions and their subdimensions were weighted utilizing the analytical hierarchy process (AHP)/pairwise comparison approach. These weights were combined to investigate the available alternatives using the VIKOR method. This framework was then implemented in a case study involving Saudi Arabian hotel buildings. Reducing the hazardous or toxic content of building materials, energy emissions associated with materials production, and exploiting natural resources utilized in materials production were significant subdimensions. Panels made of natural stone are regarded as the most suitable alternative. This document advocates for the adoption of natural and eco-friendly materials by decision-makers and stakeholders for building facades.
