Abstract
The inductive pulse power supply (IPPS) outputs a long high-current pulse wave tail, which is prone to cause chamber arcing and muzzle ablation problems in electromagnetic railguns. In this paper, a novel continuous pulsed power supply circuit based on high-temperature superconducting pulse power transformer (HTSPPT) is proposed by utilizing the inverse current commutation with semiconductor devices (ICCOS) technique. The functional realization of the circuit is based on the cooperation of power electronic switches and capacitor precharged voltages to provide flat-topped short-wave tail current pulse with short wave tails for railguns while ensuring a compact device composition. Simulation results show that the novel circuit can quickly terminate the load current pulse and achieves controllable recovery of the capacitor precharged voltage. The superiority of the circuit is verified by comparative analysis with the same kind of circuits.
