Apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease 1 (APE1), has been implicated in several neurodegenerative diseases, as having a significant role. Abnormal APE1 expression has been observed in conditions including Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and epilepsy. However, whether this dysregulation is protective or harmful remains unclear. Abstract

The global growth of the aging population has resulted in an increased prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases, characterized by the progressive loss of central nervous system (CNS) structure and function.
