The vinyl chloride related industries have developed rapidly in Europe, which accounts for about 50% of world production, and in the United States, which accounts for an estimated 25% of world production. Annual world production of vinyl chloride exceeds 10 billion kg.2 Total world-wide employment in the VCM and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) producing industries is estimated to be well over 70 000 workers.
