Abstract

Lead is one of the ten chemicals of major public health concern, and has been linked to environmental degradation and significant deterioration of human health. Multiple age-group-specific harmful effects in children, pregnant women, and adults have been reported secondary to lead exposure. Even though lead-associated adverse effects have been recognized in different parts of the world, the key barrier is the least priority assigned to it by public health officials worldwide. To conclude, owing to both short- and long-term effects of lead in different age groups, it is high time that global policymakers should prioritize lead poisoning and take appropriate measures to effectively deal with the public health menace of lead.
