Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease of periodontal tissue caused by a host immune response to dysbiotic microbial biofilm whose progression associated with destruction of tooth supporting tissue is promoted by host proteinases. Periradicular periodontitis is the most commonly diagnosed disease that affects the pathology of periodontal tissue in the area of the tooth root. This disease has also been described as apical periodontitis. Several experimental models of periodontal diseases have been developed in recent years. Abstract
