New guidance on sodium valproate prescribing

Abstract

At the end of November 2023, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency published a UK-wide National Patient Safety Alert relating to the use of sodium valproate in men and women with epilepsy. Sue Thomas outlines the rationale for this and the implications for nurses who are caring for patients who might be taking this medication.
