The impacts of higher education institutions on sustainable development: A field Study

Abstract

The current study sought to identify the role of higher education institutions in spreading a culture of environmental sustainability. The study used a social survey with a random sample of 30 male and female students who were selected non-randomly. The results of the study showed that university youth contribute to spreading the culture of environmental sustainability through university activities, and the university also spreads the culture of the environment by providing books and publications related to environmental preservation. On the other hand, the study found that curricula and programs are not linked to what is happening in the local environment. Some limitations of the research also emerged, such as the lack of modern curricula whose topics help spread the culture of environmental sustainability.   سعت الدراسة الحالية إلى التعرف على دور مؤسسات التعليم العالي في نشر ثقافة الاستدامة البيئية. استخدمت الدراسة المسح الاجتماعي من خلال عينة عشوائية مقدارها 30 طالباً وطالبة تم اختيارهم بالطريقة غير العشوائية. أظهرت نتائج الدراسة أن الشباب الجامعي يساهم في نشر ثقافة الاستدامة البيئة من خلال الانشطة الجامعية، وكذلك تقوم الجامعة في نشر ثقافة البيئة من خلال توفير الكتب والمنشورات المتعلقة بالمحافظة على البيئة. في المقابل وجدت الدراسة أن عدم ربط المناهج والمقررات الدراسية بما يحدث في البيئة المحلية، كما برزت بعض المحددات للبحث والتي تتمثل في عدم وجود مناهج حديثة تساعد موضوعاتها في نشر ثقافة الاستدامة البيئية.
