The findings disclosed that work burnout was negatively related to job performance, and work engagement was positively related to job performance. Unexpectedly, job demand had a negative relationship with work burnout and a positive relationship with work engagement. However, work burnout and work engagement mediated the relationship between job demand and job performance. The impact of job demands on job performance is not always straightforward but relies on whether employees are burned out or engaged.
