The article presents historical aspects of and modern approaches to liver transplantation. The data on the need for liver transplantation are presented, indications for its implementation are determined, the main methods of liver transplantation from a corpse and from a living related donor, issues of immunosuppression, as well as legal and deontological problems are considered
