Lexical Features of German Tourist Guides and the Difficulties of Their Translation into Russian (Based on the Booklet «Wege zu Cranach: Eine Entdeckungsreise»)

Abstract

The article concerns the lexical features of translating a tourist guide to cultural heritage sites from German into Russian. The original text contains a large number of terms from the field of history and culture, proper names and realia. The main difficulty in translation is due to the fact that, on the one hand, they require the use of traditional correspondences, but, on the other hand, not enough information is provided about them in dictionaries and reference books. The proposed methods to overcome translation difficulties can be used when translating other publications on similar topics.
