The same dilemmas afflict the new crop of Zimbabwe’s writers who feel the need to depict the ills of Zimbabwe as they are, while at the same time exposing themselves to the nationalist and Afropolitan critic’s accusations of churning out poverty porn. Our central argument is that regardless of these accusations from certain sections of their readers, writers are free to depict what they see in society, whether good or bad. In our exploration of these dilemmas, we refer to notable works by writers and critics from Zimbabwe.
