They demonstrate that the zinc ion is not inserted into the cathode as previously assumed; in contrast, proton charge-storage dominates the process. Abstract
Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries
In article number 2305128, Qing Sun, Shang Wang, Yanhong Tian, Andreu Cabot, and co-workers report an investigation of the energy-storage mechanism of a layered Bi2Te3-based cathode for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs). They demonstrate that the zinc ion is not inserted into the cathode as previously assumed; in contrast, proton charge-storage dominates the process.
