[Anxiety, an emotional condition induced by stomatological procedures].

Abstract

The great number of stomatological procedures applied to the general population will induce, by their nature, anxiety. This will precede and will accompany the stomatological experience, will induce a defense attitude and will render more difficult the therapeutical relationship between the stomatologist and the patient. Anxiety is also induced by the environment to healthy subjects as well, who have not had a stomatological experience and will induce similar reactions in cases where stomatological procedures are necessary. The study on the anxiety induced by stomatological procedures was carried out in 154 subjects, both sexes being represented, of median age, of which 37 were without stomatological lesions. It is proposed that before the start of a stomatological treatment efforts should be made in view to attenuate anxiety with the aid of simple psychological and psychiatric procedures.
