Bacterial resistance status in a level 2 hospital in Northwest Mexico in 2016

These data were obtained from the VITEK system, which provided information for the identification of the bacteria, their resistance, and sensitivity to antibiotics. Escherichia coli (28.8 %), Staphylococcus aureus (11.5 %), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (9.8 %) were the most isolated bacteria. The highest prevalence of resistance was found against beta-lactam antibiotics. This study revealed that antibiotic resistance is a serious problem at the Hospital General del Estado. Bacterial infections can be serious and require antibiotic treatment. However, the overuse of antibiotics has led to the development of antibacterial resistance, which can make infections more difficult to treat.
