Inhabitants of RSSM deported to Siberia and Kazakhstan (June 1940 – July 1941): working conditions and survival

Abstract

The communist authorities repressed large groups of innocent people, sending them to strenuous physical work in Siberia, without providing them with basic conditions for a decent living, clothing, shoes, necessary work tools. It was only after the collapse of the Soviet Union that historians were able to investigate the horrors of communism. Less has been written about the work and survival conditions from deportation in Romanian historiography from across the Prut River, this study filling some gaps in this regard.
