CHER MAÎTRE DMITRY NIKOLAEVICH USHAKOV: FROM ETHNOGRAPHER TO LEXICOGRAPHER (NOTES TO THE CREATIVE BIOGRAPHY OF THE UNFORGETTABLE MASTER)

Abstract

В статье публикуются и комментируются ценные архивные материалы, раскрывающие творческую биографию выдающегося русского филолога и педагога Дмитрия Николаевича Ушакова (1873–1942). Работа построена как сопряжение сюжетов, идей и открытий, значимых для становления личности Мастера: от зарисовок детства и первых словесных находок до увлечения этнографией, самозабвенной преподавательской деятельности и лексикографического подвига. Заметки сопровождаются яркими иллюстрациями-цитатами из воспоминаний Д. Н. Ушакова и его учеников, представляющими филолога с необычной стороны – как тонкого и любящего отца – Шера Мэтра – своих питомцев, воспитателя нового поколения Московской лингвистической школы, продолжателя и охранителя ее традиций. Связанные единым замыслом сюжеты показывают Д. Н. Ушакова как неутомимого исследователя, борца с марризмом, мужественно сражавшегося на полях лингвистической брани за подлинную науку. Облик ученого вписывается в социокультурный портрет эпохи 1920–1940-х гг., ее противоречий, надежд и утрат. Подчеркивается значимая роль Д. Н. Ушакова в становлении советского языкознания и филологического образования в стране. Делается вывод об актуальности лексикографической практики Д. Н. Ушакова в XX–XXI вв., его идей и подходов к изучению языка как феномена культуры в настоящее время. The article publishes and comments on valuable archival materials revealing the creative biography of the outstanding Russian philologist and teacher Dmitry Nikolaevich Ushakov (1873–1942). The work is constructed as a combination of plots, ideas and discoveries that are significant for the formation of the Master’s personality: from childhood sketches and first verbal finds to a passion for ethnography to self-forgetful teaching and lexicographic feat. The notes are accompanied by vivid illustrations-quotes from the memoirs of D. N. Ushakov and his followers, representing the philologist from an unusual side – as a subtle and loving father – cher maître – of his pets, the educator of a new generation of the Moscow Linguistic School, the continuer and guardian of its traditions. The plots connected by a single design show D. N. Ushakov as a tireless researcher, a fighter against Marrism, who courageously fought on the fields of linguistic warfare for genuine science. The scientist’s appearance fits into the socio-cultural landscape of the 1920s-1940s era, its contradictions, hopes and losses. The significant role of D. N. Ushakov in the formation of Soviet linguistics and philological education in the country is emphasized. The conclusion is made about the relevance of D. N. Ushakov’s lexicographic practice in the XX–XXI centuries, his ideas and approaches to the study of language as a cultural phenomenon at the present time.
