Political, economic, social, spiritual phenomena and processes influence the field of higher education. In modern society, the role of the university is perceived as a mission, which implies its special purpose. The mission statement briefly and clearly reflects the concept of the existence and development of the university. The structural elements of the mission are highlighted, its close connection with the values of state and public life is noted. The main idea of the mission is often expressed in the university motto. The ways and means of implementing the mission are comprehensively covered in the university’s program documents. Important documents are ethical codes that regulate the spiritual side of the life of the university community. The vision of its mission by the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Tokyo is considered. Based on the study of both universities websites, a comparative analysis is carried out.
