On the history of Russian translations of the collection “Liao Zhai Zhi Yi”

Abstract

“Liao Zhai Zhi Yi” occupies an important place in the history of ancient Chinese literature as a collection of stories in classical Chinese and is highly regarded both at home and abroad. The Russian translations of “Liao Zhai Zhi Yi” have existed for more than 140 years and are demanded by readers. This article is an attempt to understand the history of the Russian translations of the “Liao Zhai Zhi Yi” using the method of diachronic research, examining their features, and analyzing the goals and methods of different translations. The aim of the article is to trace the evolution of the Russian translation of “Liao Zhai Zhi Yi” and determine its prospects.
