Abstract
Introduction: One of the factors that can disrupt the functioning of the auditory system is when an individual is exposed to high levels of sound pressure, triggering Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL). The practice of sports shooting is one of the activities that can expose individuals to noise at much higher levels than permitted. Objectives: To assess the promotion of prevention and diagnosis of Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL) in sports shooters. Methodology: An observational, cross-sectional, and quantitative study was conducted. The sample included the entire population of sports shooters, who were asked to complete a questionnaire containing data about the promotion of prevention and the diagnosis of hearing loss. The data were tabulated for descriptive analysis, in terms of numbers and percentages, using Microsoft Excel 2013, and the statistical analysis of the results was performed using the statistical software SPSS (Version 22). Results: The most prevalent ways of promoting the prevention and diagnosis of hearing loss were: wearing earplugs (91.67%), receiving guidance and training on hearing health (58.33%), knowing that exposure to noise without proper exposure can cause hearing loss (100%) and 66.67% had already undergone a hearing diagnostic test. Conclusão: It can be concluded that even in the absence of legislation in force, which acts directly on the relationship between marksmanship and the risk of hearing loss, the majority of the population already has a latent concern about the aforementioned issue.
