The effect of semantic development in the proverbs contained in the dictionary of the language community of Ibn Duraid

Abstract

The research studied proverbs selected from the dictionary of the language community, which Ibn Duraid mentioned in a distinct linguistic style. It showed the effect of the semantic development of the words, whose meaning evolved after they were singular until they entered into the structures of proverbs. The semantic form that the research distinguished is the semantic transition, as it deals with this type of development that is meant by writers, poets, and linguists, its implications and stages of development according to use. The researcher Adopted the descriptive, analytical, and parallel approach, and arranged the proverbs in the alphabetical system. The study was divided into two sections. The first section included a translation of Ibn Duraid, forms of semantic development, and semantic transmission. The second section included the proverbs that appeared in the dictionary of the language community, followed by a conclusion, and then the sources and references.
