Ways of achieving adequacy in translation of ethno-marked ecclesionyms

Abstract

Статья затрагивает проблему выбора способов передачи осетинских экклезионимов средствами русского и английского языков. Исследование выполнено в русле переводческой ономастики и сравнительно-сопоста-вительного направления в лингвистике. Осетинская сакральная онимная лексика (теонимы, экклезионимы, агионимы, агиоантропонимы, агиотопонимы, геортонимы) недостаточно изучена с позиции семантических и лингвопрагматических характеристик экклезионимов Южной Осетии, лингвокультурного фона их появления, особенностей их объективации в общественной коммуникации, способов переводческой интерпретации. Исследование содержит классификацию сакральной онимной лексики и перечень наиболее известных экклезионимов Южной Осетии с вариантами их переводческих соответствий на русском и английском языках. Новизна представленного материала определяется тем, что это первый опыт рассмотрения этномаркированных экклезионимов с точки зрения выбора стратегии и способов их передачи средствами переводящих языков. Сакральные онимы представляют значительный интерес с точки зрения мотивированности, отражения функциональных и прагматических характеристик божеств в названии культовых сооружений и сакральных мест и могут послужить источником изучения истории, культуры, менталитета осетинского народа. The present research was carried out in line with the comparative approach in linguistics, translation onomastics. It views the issues of translating Ossetian ecclesionyms into the Russian and the English languages. Ossetian sacral onymic vocabulary (theonyms, ecclesionyms, hagionims, hagioanthroponyms, hagiotoponyms, geortonyms) has not been sufficiently studied in terms of semantic and linguo-pragmatic characteristics of South Ossetian ecclesionyms, the linguocultural background of their appearance, specificity of their usage in public communication and methods of translation. The research gives the classification of different types of sacral onyms and the list of the most famous sacral names of South Ossetia with their translation correspondences in the target languages. The topicality of the research is determined by the fact that this is the first experience of considering ethno-marked ecclesionyms from the point of view of the translation strategy choice and methods of translation. Sacral onyms present considerable interest in terms of their motivation, reflection of the functional and pragmatic characteristics of the Ossetian deities in the nomination of religious buildings, places of worship and shrines, and can serve as a rich source for studying the history, culture and mentality of the Ossetian people.
